A simple negative of an image taken in central Wellington. I used a 24mm wide angle lense and got in close to the base of the church to capture the two buildings in parallel. I like the way the two buildings support one another and contradict each other.
Trees were down, floodwaters rising. Things were looking pretty rough. I limped out to the coast and hunkered down under a tree.

I have plunged north, taking a 10 hour bus trip from Agness Waters to Airlie Beach. It's hot, humid and tropical.

I made it this far... from the deepest south, all the way up the peninsula to the capital. Unfortunately I ran out of time and missed out on the north... next time.

Well, I've moved on from Wiangsa, and am now in Phuket. These images are from around and about over the past few weeks.

Miles turned up and we made the journey to Krabi for a few days before heading out to Ko Samui and Ko Phangan. I made a short detour to Myanmar before returning home.
A mission in transport and the miracle of the bronze buddha. My anguish of the deleted photos and the new job, teaching in Surat Thani.

My Arrival, a border crossing and an introduction to the dangerous south. A night in Hat Yai and then on to Trang in search of employment.

It's impossible to tell the time, my room exists in a perpetual state of darkness. A box without windows and the ceaseless fan. My only clue comes from the sound of the city outside, dulled by the intervening layers of concrete.

Bali explodes on your senses in an exotic, vibrant and pungent experience. The roads, even in the main town of Kuta, are narrow, crowded and rough. I even had a game of chess with some local masters, sitting on the edge of the road.
Top of the Queensland coast. A trip to Fitzroy Island and the Daintree National Park further north.
Just returned from a road trip to Mount Cook. Five days of lakes, beaming sun and wide blue skies. First evening we went as far as lake Colerige, a back country lake tucked away at the base of the alps, and the source of the Rakaia River.
I consulted my trusty map, the battered old AA road atlas that had been my companion on a number of exciting road trips. There was a circle on Taupo bay, possibly marked by Milan. Taupo bay was off the main road by about 20 minutes.

Taken from the top of the 50 meter cliff, this image attempts to present the beauty of water as it falls down, catching the light.

Looking back towards the hut (hidden unfortunately) the panorama spans nearly 180 degrees of stunning views.

We stopped for the night on the outskirts of Gisborne and watched as the sun set in an explosion of golden light.

Over New Year 2001-2002 I went on a road trip around the North Island and found some wonderful beaches. This rock is in cathedral cove in Hahei just North of hot water beach.

The Brighton pier is a magnificent piece of sculpture that thrusts out to sea from the Christchurch coast. Several images are combined along with digital colouring to make an interesting aged and textured feel.
